The Minnesota Minutemen are happy to announce that 2009 Mr. Hockey award winner Nick Leddy has been signed to play for the Chicago Blackhawks. Leddy will be leaving the Minnesota Golden Gophers team after one season to sign a 3-year contract for the rookie maximum, which will pay him $900,000 annually with bonuses. The Minnesota Wild originally selected Leddy in the first round of the 2009 NHL draft with the No. 16 pick overall, but traded him to Chicago in a three-player deal. The 5-11, 180-pound Leddy was named Mr. Hockey in 2009 after leading Eden Prairie to the Class 2A state title. As a Gophers freshman, he had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 30 games. He missed eight games after suffering a broken jaw on Oct. 30 against Alaska Anchorage. Leddy, 19, was named the Gophers' rookie of the year last season and led the team with a plus-6 rating. He played on the Gophers first defensive pair and committed only two minor penalties.
